Frequently Asked Questions
Is Briarwood Affiliated with a specific church?
Briarwood is an independent ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and is supported by ELCA Congregations within the Northern Texas – Northern Louisiana Synod. While Briarwood is directly affiliated with the ELCA, it does not only serve members of the Lutheran Church as it is utilized by a variety of faith traditions, including Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Roman Catholics, and community organizations, including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, the Lewisville Independent School District, the Flower Mound and Lewisville Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Clubs and the Village of Copper Canyon.
What does Briarwood believe?
God’s purpose for Briarwood is to be a natural setting where people experience the love of God. The ministry of Briarwood is guided by the following principles:
Jesus is Lord
Tell the Good News
Everything belongs to God
God Provides Abundantly
Prayer and Being in the Word is Central
In faithfulness to our purpose we have developed ministries that are open to all and engage people at various stages of life. Our summer camp provides a safe place where children and youth are welcomed to develop friendships; learn about, and explore the depth, of God’s love for them; and experience activities that lead to growth in their faith and relationships with God and one another.
Where is Briarwood?
Briarwood is located in the Village of Copper Canyon. Since Copper Canyon does not have its own mailing district our mailing address is 672 Copper Canyon Rd, Argyle Texas. We are approximately 1 mile north of FM 407, on Copper Canyon Rd – on the eastern border of Lantana, TX.
Do younger kids room with older kids?
All campers are roomed with campers in their same age bracket and program, and at least one counselor. The difference of ages between the campers is with a 2-3 year margin. Our LYLE campers are given the opportunity to stay in our Quail Run motel rooms, but they are still supervised by a counselor.
How is Briarwood making camp safe for my kids?
Briarwood is certified by the American Camp Association, and the Texas Department of State and Health Services. We take our training very seriously, and employ many experts to better prepare our staff and equip them to provide a safe and fun environment for your camper. Please check out our “New to Briarwood” to see in more detail how serious we take the safety of your camper!
Can my child stay in the same cabin as their friends?
We want to make sure that campers will have the chance to experience Briarwood with all of their friends, both old and new! During the registration process, you will be asked for any rooming requests for your campers! We try to accommodate all requests to the best of our abilities.
Can I switch weeks after I register and make a deposit?
Yes! you can change camp weeks as long as there is availability in that week and there is no additional charge. Contact the office 940-241-2099 or to change weeks.
Are scholarships available?
The Briarwood team believes that no child should be turned away from camp for financial reasons. Donors have provided funds so that camperships may be offered.
